A short biography of the artist.

   David sketching in Boscastle.

 David Mather,

Born in the beautiful county of Devon England, where much of his passion and inspiration for his drawings and paintings begin, his father who was a very good artist in his own right sold several paintings within the USA during the 1950's, but sadly he died aged just 35 before David realized his own desire and ability to be able to sketch and paint, it was not until he was around the age of thirteen that he found this first indication that he had an ability to be an artist, an art teacher at that time gave them a still life to sketch and paint, and he was chosen as a potential candidate to sit the "GCE" O level art examination, she then went on and reduced the students she had selected down to five, of which he was one, and to his surprise and delight passed.

Art was then put aside until he joined the RAF, where in his spare time he began to paint in oils,  exhibiting and selling to many service personnel and civilians around the areas he was stationed, but his career in the RAF came to premature end when he sustained a chronic back injury, which needed numerous surgery procedures, unfortunatly these procedures only added to the injury and left him with arachnoiditis and being partialy disabled.
From the RAF he went to work for the MOD, but was still plagued  with further surgery procedures, and further deterioration.

Trying to come to terms with this chronic pain, he decided to  teach himself the techniques of watercolour painting, and with this and his love for drawing he found that losing himself into this beautiful medium was an excellent therapy which does not eliminate the pain but certainly helps, and he can through his own personal experiences suggest to anyone who has a painful disability, try it! you may be surprised.

Since those early days he has acquired collectors of his  paintings from all around the world, with  private collections in the USA,Canada,Spain,Holland, Qatar, Luxembourg and the UK.

I hope you enjoy his paintings as much as he enjoys creating them.

                                                          Thankyou.
